The Eclipse is an environmentally friendly vessel that caters to the Galapagos Islands and its community as much as she caters to her guests. As a certified member of the Rainforest Alliance “Smart Voyager” program, the protection of the fragile ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands is Eclipse's first priority. The vessel, staff, and crew are proud to fulfill the highest standards of management practices in an environmentally sensitive destination.
Environmentally Friendly Practices
Eclipse's crew members are all trained in environmentally responsible operating practices, and the naturalist guides are eager to impart some of that wisdom to guests. Eclipse is cleaned using biodegradable materials and chemicals, and the guest shampoo and soap are also biodegradable. In order to reduce waste on board, guests are all given complimentary water bottles which they can fill at any number of refill stations on board the vessel.
Eclipse's engines are equipped with special filters in order to reduce, and sometimes eliminate, the need to change oil & lubricants. On board is a black and grey water treatment plant as well as a desalination plant. She has special equipment to adequately treat organic waste, and is capable of separating waste material and properly disposing of it.
Support to the Local Community
And Eclipse cares about her community, too. A modest portion of all ticket sales is annually donated to a variety of worthy causes in the Galapagos, and more than 60% of Eclipse's crew is a permanent or temporary resident of the island.
